Charles Capwell (Ph.D., Harvard University, 1981) is Professor of Music and an Affiliate of the Anthropology Department. His research interests have included folk music of Bengal, colonalism in the musical life of 19th-century Calcutta, and popular Islamic music in Indonesia. He is a past editor of Ethnomusicology, the journal of the Society for Ethnomusicology. He teaches courses on world music, the music of India, the music of Indonesia, and the music of Asian Americans.
