MINOR
AAS
offers an interdisciplinary minor. This minor provides students
with an excellent opportunity to acquire greater understanding
of the experiences of Asian Americans via a coherent multidisciplinary
curriculum. The minor also provides students with a multicultural
understanding of the U.S. Additionally, it creates a context
for students who want to go on to graduate or professional
school; work in the fields of education, politics, or community
relations; or broaden their horizons beyond a specific discipline
for personal enhancement and growth.
AAS recently proposed
an interdisciplinary major. The program's Curriculum Committee, directed by AAS Director Kent A. Ono and Chair Martin Manalansan, crafted the proposal. The B.A. in AAS is designed to provide students with the methodological and theoretical tools associated with the interdisciplinary field. The major would better enable the program to reach its goal of educating a diverse student body and would play an important role in helping the university expand its interdisciplinary approach to academic inquiry. The major is needed to continue building what is already recognized as one of the premier AAS programs in the U.S. and would illustrate the university's continued commitment to the intellectual pursuits of this dynamic field with a rich thirty-six-year history.
We will continue to provide updates on the developments of this proposal.
